1. Who are Algarve Select?

Algarve Select is a tour operator that specialises in holidays to the Algarve in Portugal. The business has been arranging holidays to Portugal's sunshine coast for over 23 years and is part of The Emerson Group - a large and prestigious construction group with its headquarters in Cheshire. Amongst other projects, the Emerson Group was responsible for the construction of Bolton Wanderer's Reebok Stadium and the Lowry Centre in Manchester. 2. How can I book?

Algarve Select provide a number of means of making a booking. These include:-

3. Will Algarve Select book the whole holiday for me?

The choice is yours! We're happy to book the complete holiday including your flights, transfer from the airport or car hire, insurance and even a starter food pack should you require it. Alternatively, we're just as happy to book only the accommodation for you should you wish to book the travel for yourself. Our expertise and systems mean that we can do whatever it is that suits you.

4. Do I have to pay a deposit?

Yes. In order to confirm your booking and so that we can make a commitment to the accommodation provider, we require a deposit from you that is set at £95 per person. If you ask us to book you a flight with one of the airline operators that require full payment with booking, then we shall also ask you to pay that amount along with your deposit. If your booking is made within 10 weeks of departure then we shall ask you to pay the full price of the holiday at the time of booking.

5. What happens after I have made my booking and paid the deposit?

Shortly after making your booking, we shall send you a confirmation invoice that sets out the details of what you have asked us to book plus an explanation of how the cost of your holiday has been calculated. Then at 10 weeks before departure, we shall expect you to pay the balance of any money outstanding for your holiday. Once this has been received, we shall send you all of the tickets and vouchers that you will need for your holiday together with a pack of useful information such as route directions for those customers who choose to hire a car in Portugal.

7. How do I know that my booking will be safe with Algarve Select?

8. Do I need holiday insurance?

We strongly recommend that all customers should have comprehensive insurance in place before they travel. Appropriate insurance can provide cover against unexpected eventualities such as the need to cancel the holiday at the last minute, loss of valuables or luggage or the costs of medical treatment whilst abroad.

9. At what times of the year are holidays available?

Thanks to the wonderful climate enjoyed by Portugal's Algarve coast, we are able to offer holidays at all times of the year.

10. Do many Portuguese speak English?

British customers are the largest group of visitors to the Algarve each year so most of the staff who work in the tourist industry do have some knowledge of the English language.

11. What's the weather like in the Algarve?

Much warmer and sunnier than in Britain! In fact, the Algarve has more sunshine hours each year than any other part of Europe. For more information on the climate of the Algarve why not visit Weather Underground

12. What's the food and drink like on the Algarve?

As you might expect for a region so closely associated with the sea, the chefs in the Algarve are proud of their seafood dishes but they also serve many other types of food. The local wines are full-bodied and come in red, white, rosé and even one that's called "green". All of the bars serve lager that's very similar to that served in Britain.

13. Do I need a Passport/Visa/Inoculations?

Portugal is part of the European Community and visitors from Britain or Ireland require only a valid passport.

14. What sort of money do they use in Portugal?

Portugal is part of the Euro zone and uses the same currency as many other parts of Europe such as Spain, France and Ireland. Changing pounds sterling into Euros is easily done at many post offices, banks and travel agents. If you have any Euros left over from a visit to somewhere such as Spain then you will be able to spend them in Portugal.

15. Is the time different from the UK?

No. Portugal is on the same time zone as Great Britain and Ireland and so there is no need to change clocks and watches when visiting the country.

16. What about driving on the Algarve?

Like most of continental Europe, the Portuguese drive on the right hand side of the road in cars that are left hand drive. The A22 motorway that runs west from near Faro airport to the resorts along the Algarve coast is free to all users. The system of road signing with, for example, motorway signs in blue will be familiar to British drivers.

17. Do I need a handicap certificate for the golf courses?

Yes you will need to have a valid certificate, issue by your golf club

18. Will I have to pay extra for golf club carriage on the flight?

Some airlines do make a charge. Please check with our reservations team for details.

19. Are Algarve Select V.A.T. registered?
